Vintage Tea Cup – Royal Vale China

This Vintage Tea Cup – Royal Vale China features the eternally simple design of white with gold stripes and gold trim. A tea cup, saucer and matching plate complete the trio. The saucer is round whilst the plate is more of a square with rounded corners.

Enjoy the optimum tea drinking temperature of 57ºc after 2 minutes of pouring your tea into the dainty cup.

The backstamp features the words “Royal Vale Bone China” in an oval topped with a crown. “Made in England” features underneath the oval. This indicates that the tea cup set originates somewhere between 1913 and the 1940’s.

Significance of Royal Vale Bone China

Royal Vale bone china is a trademark of the Colclough China Company and is named after Colclough’s Vale Potteries in Stoke-On-Trent, England. Colclough received a prestigious royal license for Vale Potteries after a visit from King George V and Queen Mary in 1913.

Instrumental in making fine bone china accessible to everyone – not just the wealthy – Royal Vale made it possible to purchase individual items rather than a complete dinner set. Very forward thinking for the era!
